They use a machete to cut the top of the coconut off. They do it with ease.
Now the guy in the picture above was using what looked like
a meat cleaver. But the guy in the
picture below is using a machete which is what my street vendor used.
One day as I was driving down a city street in Miami I decided to try a
coco frio. I stopped at a street vendor
and got one. When I got back to the
office I told a supervisor who was from Cuba about the coco frio. He asked me how I liked it. I told him that I didn't like the
taste. He smiled and asked me if the
vendor had put some sugar into the coconut to sweeten it. I told him "no" and he still smiled.
So that was my adventure with coco frio and I am confident
that with a little bit of sugar a coco frio will be really good.
I am also confident that there will probably
be some sugar in Mary 's coconut
